Security Checkpoint Wait Times!

TSA is providing historical wait time information for the security checkpoints at the nation’s airports.

This tool, along with information from your airline and airport, will allow you to estimate your arrival time during a particular day and time.

A good rule of thumb for security checkpoints is to give yourself 2 hours for domestic and 3 hours for international flights.  Remember that a power outage, weapons scare, and a security breach could and HAS shutdown security checkpoints for hours causing passengers to miss their flights. Don’t forget that traveling in diverse weather conditions is a big time delay too!

Thursday through Sunday are the busiest days to travel through security checkpoints and from 10am to 3pm are high peak travel times through our nation’s airports.

5 Must Know Tips For Air Travel With Lighters And Matches!

As of August 4, 2007 common lighters are a permitted in carry-on baggage and on your person when walking through security checkpoint. You are only allowed to carry four books of safety matches in your carry-on or on your person through security checkpoint per person. Matches and lighters are prohibited in checked baggage with one exemption for lighters. Those lighters without fuel are permitted in checked baggage. Lighters with fuel are prohibited in checked baggage, unless they adhere to the Department of Transportation (DOT) exemption, which allows up to two fueled lighters if properly enclosed in a DOT approved case. If you are uncertain as to whether your lighter is prohibited in checked baggage, then pack your lighters in your carry-on baggage or on your person.

What is Your Lane? TSA Enables Passengers to Go at Their Own Pace in Salt Lake

At TSA we are piloting a variety of innovations at the checkpoint to improve security by focusing on people, technology and process. In the process arena, TSA launched a self-select lane pilot this week in Salt Lake City, Utah. The self-select lane is aimed at enabling travelers to select a lane customized to their pace. Because the pilot is in a region of the country where skiing is a way of life, TSA modeled the lanes after well-known ski icons: green for beginners, blue for intermediate and black for expert.

Playing The Name Game With The Government’s Watch List

I found this interesting article for everyone to read.  It’s worth clicking and signing into Travel Weekly’s website.

Whether a traveler is allowed to board an airplane may soon be even more up to the government’s discretion, a situation that has privacy advocates crying foul. A new proposed program would use an FBI-generated database to determine which passengers are not a threat.  Travel Weekly.
